Responsibilities

  • Support SUE field crews in the following areas
    • Provide real-time QA/QC of survey data and resolve issues as they arise in the field
    • Coordinate with utility company representatives as needed for Quality Level A (QLA) SUE operations
    • Analyze utility records to guide crews on site
  • If project schedule requires, assist SUE technicians on gathering SUE field data of all quality levels.
  • Prepare traffic control plans, permits or other necessary documentation needed for field operations.
  • Obtain utility information by placing 811 tickets, requesting utility records directly from utility companies and utilizing GIS/publicly available maps, obtain existing utility information.
  • Draft utility lines and utility infrastructure in CAD/GIS
  • Produce utility layout sheets to support plan production
  • Coordinate with LAN’s various business groups on a variety of project to determine SUE needs
  • Analyze and interpret engineering design plans, ROW maps, utility drawings and other technical documents.
  • Champion safety for the team which may include other Technicians, Engineers, Interns or other junior staff.
  • This position will be +/- 25% in the field and will require travel within Texas, but may be more or less pending current project schedules and weather.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 4+ years experience in civil engineering industry.
  • CAD/GIS experience desired, Microstation – OpenRoads Designer and ArcGIS experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with general civil construction, land surveying and utility infrastructure.
  • Experience in SUE, utility engineering, utility design and land surveying are all pluses, but not required
  • Eye for safety as it relates to general field work along roadways and construction sites.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • EIT/PE licensure is not required, but the ideal candidate should want to attain licensure.
